Today, my friends, you get a Darkhawk piece from yours truly! I was playing around with a style a week ago with the image at the end of this post. It was fun and it was quick and it was actually a test for a new Tough Guys Webcomic style that I’m trying to refine for the new launch of Tough Guys with Zac Marshall… one day.

Anyways, after doing a body sample of Darkhawk, I decided to try to see these character’s in action. I had just read the Darkhawk Annual #1 from 1992 so that was on my desk. I wanted to reproduce that cover design in this style–and what you see above is the end result of that effort! Obviously the one on the left is the actual cover, the one on the right is my version. I did it in pencil and ink, then I scanned it and vectorized the lines and colored it digitally in Macromedia Flash.

I’m actually extremely proud of this attempt considering how long it has been since I’ve picked up a pencil to draw traditionally. Leave it to Darkhawk to bring that desire back out of the dark.
