Thoughts: Here’s another example of the D&A Dream-Team bringing back another Marvel relic–doomed to heroic defeat and buried in Marvel history books. Sphinx is a powerful mutant that goes back to Egyptian times, was empowered by the Ka Stone (an alien device), and seeks the power of Xandar in order to finally end his boring life. That’s the short of it but it’s likely I’ve missed a more up to date version of Sphinx that’s not so self-destructive.
Abnett and Lanning once again grab hold of that alien origin element in order to find a character that they can re-develop and draw into their cosmic playground–one that first appearaed in Nova #6 in 1977 no less! For that alone, I give it all the support I can muster.
I’ve always loved Apocalypse, and I pretty much stopped collecting comics after Age of Apocalypse. The Sphinx is as close a counter-part to Apocalypse as I can get at this point–so bring it on!
