It is both a moment of utmost sadness as well as unexpected happiness for me right now. I found this Darkhawk promo poster selling on Ebay with a starting bid of $9.99 USD. Of course I immediately watched it like a hawk–huh huh… hawk–for the next 7 days. This was a 1990 Mike Manley drawn, promotional poster exclusively given to comic stores and was in perfect condition.

Today someone entered the bid wars with me. It was unexpected, stressful and ultimately disappointing an end for yours truly. The part that makes me happy though is that someone else out there wanted this darn thing as much as–or MORE–than I did!

Just think for a second though: There was a PROMO poster for Darkhawk to promote the launch of his book… man how times have changed two decades later, huh? Marvel was really backing the success of the NEW New York hero for a new generation. This is something that’d be nice to see more of in general from comic companies–launch new heroes with some confident promotional tactics.

Anywho… sad I didn’t win it. Even sadder is how terrible the photo of the poster is that was attached to the listing. If anyone… ANYONE… still has one of these lying around, can you please take a better photo and contact me! I’d love to archive it on the site! UPDATE: New picture sent AND framed by Bucketheads, Beren and Rene (the one’s who outbid me)!
