A few weeks ago I had a bid off with another Buckethead for a vintage Darkhawk Promo Poster (earlier post). I was lucky enough to actually hear back not only from Beren Olean who collects Darkhawk paraphernalia, but his lovely (and awesome) wife Rene as well who scans Ebay for DH goodness for her hubby… and whom is now my arch-nemesis… there I said it.
From Beren’s comment on the Vintage Poster win:
I started buying DH comics while I was in school, and was one of the only story lines that I actually cared about. When my wife and I first started dating she made me a latch-hook pillow with DH on it. Then for my birthday or Christmas two years ago she found me a signed copy of DH #1 by Mike Manley. Sorry that I outbid you, but I really need more quality DH stuff to add to my collection.
Rene then sent me an image of this Darkhawk pillow she made:
First I made a latchhook pattern from a picture on the internet. After I hooked all the yarn it was attached with an iron to a plain black pillowcase.
What an amazing wife (then girlfriend) EVER–I mean, seriously, many of us Bucketheads get scoffed at, made fun of, or generally unsupported in our unabashed loyalty to “the greatest hero of the 90s”! Isn’t this pillow great! Classic Darkhawk captured forever in kitschy perfection for future generations.
With this post I’ve committed to calling all Darkhawk fans out there who support the character and all his greatness “Bucketheads”. That’s right folks, inspired by the F.O.A.M. Society from the Aquaman Shrine fansite, This fan site will now to support Bucketheads everywhere who’ve got Darkhawk things to share! Beren and Rene (by association) are the FIRST members of the Bucketheads!
