It’s always awesome to hear another Darkhawk fan talk about ol’ Buckethead! I came across a blog today that does just that. Blogger, Dan from New Zealand, from “A Dan’s World” (sorry can’t find his last name) shares his Dawn of the Darkhawk buying experience:

I didn’t hide it, go home get my wallet and come back for it – fair too logical and time consuming. I simply ‘pestered’ the folks I was with to flip me a few bucks so I could take it home right then and there. Its shelf-buddies Uncanny X-Menor Iron Man would’ve been an easier sell I’m sure, but nope, I wanted Darkhawk.

My memory is that I took a family trip to New Hampshire from South Ontario to visit family there. We were in a grocery store and I say the first three issues of Darkhawk on the rack… remember those days!? Geez, long gone. Issue one looked like Wolverine had SNICKed it–probably damage from an exacto knife opening the shipping box–but I got all three nonetheless! I got a new issue 1 from a quarter bin a year ago :) . Near-perfect condition! Go figure.

Dan also mentions his love of Manley’s art and its ability to both capture the story with limited, but enough, detail, and that Manley drew the armor better than anyone else. I have to kind of agree with that despite the craziness of the new direction with the manga-inspired cosmic stuff. I will always love classic Darkhawk more.
